SoundHound closes LivePerson deal, folding a billion messages a month into OASYS
The September 4 close unifies SoundHound's voice agent stack with LivePerson's digital messaging platform under one omnichannel system, resetting the benchmark for conversational AI vendors.
SoundHound AI closed its acquisition of LivePerson on September 4, folding roughly a billion monthly customer messages into the same platform that already runs its voice agents. The combined company now serves 25 Fortune 100 accounts, holds more than 750 patents, and is publicly targeting over $500 million in future revenue from its existing customer base alone.
The mechanics moved fast. LivePerson stockholders approved the deal at a special meeting two days before close, per an exhibit filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission, and LivePerson common stock ceased trading on Nasdaq the same day the transaction completed. The release went out through GlobeNewswire under the branding of a “world-leading omnichannel conversational AI powerhouse,” which is the phrasing to watch. Voice and digital messaging have historically been sold by different vendors, priced on different meters, and integrated by the customer. That separation is what this deal ends.
The consolidated product is OASYS, SoundHound’s Orchestrated Agent System, now extended across phone, web, mobile, SMS, and social under a single agent layer. Keyvan Mohajer, CEO and co-founder of SoundHound AI, called the close “a defining moment for the new agentic AI era.” John Sabino, LivePerson’s CEO, framed it as “an unparalleled value proposition for enterprises seeking to modernize their contact centers and digital touchpoints.” John Collins, previously LivePerson’s CFO, COO, and interim CEO, was named CFO of the combined company, an unusually thorough absorption of the acquired side’s finance leadership.
Read against the rest of the week’s conversational-AI news, the deal isn’t isolated. It sits alongside Hostinger’s expansion of its AI from support bot to a business growth agent and Wix’s launch of Symphony, a multi-agent platform aimed at small businesses. Three different tiers of the market, one direction of travel: channels collapsing into agent platforms, and point tools getting squeezed between them.
What’s conspicuously absent is any pricing or timeline for sub-enterprise buyers. The Fortune 100 language is doing work. Everyone else gets to watch the benchmark reset and wait.
