Attentive ships AI Grow, moving retailers off fixed sign-up rules

The subscription-marketing platform's per-visitor decision engine, generally available since Aug. 19, reported a median 25% lift in email and SMS sign-ups and a 35% lift in welcome-series revenue in beta.

Attentive made AI Grow generally available on Aug. 19, retiring the fixed-timer sign-up pop-up that has governed retail email capture for roughly two decades and replacing it with a per-visitor decision engine that reads scroll depth, browsing signals, and purchase likelihood before surfacing a prompt. The company reports a median 25% lift in email and SMS sign-ups from existing website traffic in beta, and a 35% lift in welcome-series revenue, the highest-margin moment in any subscription program.

The framing matters more than the feature. “For decades, retailers have relied on a rules-based approach to engage website visitors, even though every shopper makes buying decisions differently. AI gives us the opportunity to start personalization earlier — at the moment a shopper decides whether to begin a relationship with a brand,” said Eric Miao, chief strategy officer and chief product officer at Attentive. That’s a direct swipe at the “show it after 5 seconds” heuristic that has quietly shaped conversion economics since Mailchimp’s rise in the late 2000s.

The named-customer numbers are what will move procurement conversations. Yankee Candle logged a 52% combined lift in SMS and email subscribers on first deployment and a 20% welcome-conversion lift in steady state. Clove posted a 19% incremental subscriber lift and a 48% welcome-revenue increase. MANSCAPED captured 2,167 opt-ins during the Super Bowl traffic surge, 5.4 times its prior week’s daily average. Every result was measured through cohort-level A/B testing against the brand’s existing setup, per the company.

“the biggest gains come from how channels really work together,” said Deepthy Marunninal, senior manager of CRM at Yankee Candle, who also called AI Grow a system that “helps us make smarter decisions faster, which is critical for a brand like ours managing a high volume of campaigns across channels.”

The timing is unsubtle. Attentive’s July 2026 Consumer Pulse research puts 83% of consumers planning holiday purchases before Black Friday and 71% actually shopping earlier. The subscriber list a brand carries into November is largely built by early October, and Attentive is selling a tool to widen that funnel before the window closes.

Competitors are moving on a different axis. A Sept. 10 MarTech roundup noted Klaviyo opening 260 MCP tools and 490 APIs to external agents, including new SQL access in its Data Platform. Attentive won the Agentic AI Product/Platform category at the 2026 ADWEEK Tech Stack Awards; AI Grow feeds the same identity foundation as AI Journeys and AI Pro. Two theories of the agentic era, one betting on decisions at the top of the funnel, the other on interoperability underneath it.
