Adobe buys Rilo and shuts it down, stranding 10,000 GTM users
Adobe confirmed the acquisition of India-based Rilo on September 2, absorbing its six-person team and IP into its enterprise marketing stack while closing the standalone agentic workflow product that more than 10,000 users had adopted.
Adobe confirmed on September 2 that it’s acquiring Rilo, the India-based agentic-workflow startup founded in September 2025, hiring its six-person team, integrating some of its IP, and shutting the standalone product that had accumulated more than 10,000 users in under a year. It’s Adobe’s second India deal after the 2023 pickup of Rephrase.ai, and it arrives roughly a year after its $1.9 billion acquisition of Semrush.
The shape of the transaction is the story. Rilo raised about $1 million from Peak XV, DeVC, and Day Zero Ventures at a $10 million valuation, TechCrunch reports, and existing investors will get an exit. Co-founder Dhruv Jaglan, an IIT Bombay alumnus who previously co-founded Babblebots.ai, posted on LinkedIn: “Beyond excited to announce that Rilo is joining Adobe to help bring AI to Fortune 500 marketers.” His co-founder Georgi Boby, who led technology at cooking-robotics company CloudChef, joins with him. Bhavesh Dhingra, the JEE Advanced 2016 AIR 2, rounds out the technical bench.
Rilo had evolved, per Business Standard, into “AI employees” running competitive intelligence, prospecting, LinkedIn outreach, Reddit marketing, social content, and campaign research across hundreds of tools, the exact workflow surface that small marketing teams had been stitching together by hand. Day Zero’s Rahul Gupta called the builder “was way ahead of the curve” and “extremely valuable to a giant like Adobe in enhancing customer experience and productivity.” DeVC’s Rahul Mathur told TechCrunch it could slot into Adobe’s CX suite. Adobe declined further comment.
That’s the pattern worth naming. Agentic GTM at SMB scale is being pulled upmarket almost as fast as it ships. Klaviyo absorbing an agency’s AI agent team days earlier and Anthropic’s open commerce blueprint this week sit inside the same consolidation curve, alongside Claude Cowork, ChatGPT Work, and the marketing rails already shipped by Amazon, Google, Meta, and Canva.
Ten thousand small teams learned this week that adopting a standalone agent is a bet on the acquirer, not the product.
