Agentic Browsers Hit 58 Million Sessions in a Month — and Nearly 9% of Muse's Requests Are Touching Checkout
DataDome's Q3 2026 AI Traffic Report documents a 4.7x surge in agentic browser requests in September, with Meta's Muse alone generating 29.1 million cloud-hosted sessions in 12 days — a sample of which found 8.9% hitting forms, login, payment, account-creation, and cart endpoints.
Agentic browser requests across DataDome’s network jumped from 12.5 million in August to 58.2 million in September, a 4.7x surge documented in the firm’s Q3 2026 AI Traffic Report, released October 15. The headline isn’t the growth rate. It’s where the traffic is landing.
In a sample of Meta’s Muse browser, 8.9% of requests hit forms, login, payment, account-creation, or cart endpoints. Forms dominated at 81% (roughly 202,600 hits), followed by about 24,800 logins, 9,600 payment requests, 6,800 account creations, and 5,200 cart requests. These aren’t crawlers reading content. They’re software reaching for the checkout button.
Muse, measured for just nine days in September, generated 19.5 million requests on its own. Between September 22 and October 3, Muse produced 29.1 million total requests, growing 4.4x in daily volume from 0.8 million on September 22 to 3.7 million on October 1, with a peak two-hour window of 484,000 on October 3. Amazon cut Muse off from shopping on Amazon.com on September 20, which did nothing to slow the broader curve: agentic volume excluding Muse still tripled to 38.7 million in September.
The infrastructure signature is telling. 99.3% of sampled Muse traffic came from Cloudflare (81.2%) and Fastly (18.1%), with only 0.6% (about 17,500 requests across eight consumer networks including Comcast, Verizon, and AT&T) originating from consumer ISPs. Agentic traffic is cloud-hosted, not residential.
Other agents followed suit. ChatGPT’s cloud browser grew 4.5x from 6.1 million in August to 27.4 million in September. Claude’s browser extension generated 10.5 million. Perplexity’s Comet fell to 0.8 million from 2.4 million in July. Across the whole network, DataDome logged nearly 25 billion AI agent requests in Q3, up 41.5% from 17.7 billion in Q2. Meta’s two crawlers alone accounted for 12.4 billion, or 49.7% of the Q3 total, down marginally from 51.5% in Q2 as the field diversifies.
A separate Fingerprint survey of 300 U.S. financial services leaders found 79% have detected malicious bots impersonating legitimate AI assistants, only 45% can mitigate spoofed traffic in real time, and 40% named their top fear as inadvertently blocking real ones. That’s the posture of an industry caught between two failure modes. One of them completes a sale. The other kills it silently.
