The Agentic Review

Marklo opens public beta with $5M seed led by Forerunner, pitching an agentic planner for Shopify brands

The San Francisco startup, founded by Stella & Dot's Jessica Herrin, says its system reads a brand's sales, inventory, and competitor signals, then builds campaigns for marketer approval — timed to the Black Friday window.

Marklo, the eleven-person startup founded in 2025 by Stella & Dot and WeddingChannel.com veteran Jessica Herrin, announced a $5 million seed round led by Forerunner on October 14 and opened its public beta alongside the raise, roughly six weeks ahead of Black Friday. Freestyle Capital and a handful of former Klaviyo and current Shopify operators joined, Crunchbase News first reported. Dealroom ranks the check in the top 6% of U.S. seed rounds on record for marketing startups.

The pitch is narrow and well-timed. Marklo ingests a Shopify brand’s sales, inventory, email, paid, and social signals, watches category competitors, and proposes campaigns with briefs, creative direction, and task assignments already drafted. Marketers edit and ship; the agent does the reconciliation work that typically eats a lean DTC team’s week. More than 100 brands have run the software in pilot, including Away, Clare V., Monica + Andy, Maya Brenner, and Latico Leathers, which Herrin says compressed a month of planning from most of a week across five tools down to a single day.

“Every tool in a brand’s stack is getting AI, but each one only sees its own corner of the business. You can’t decide what to market next without knowing what sold, what’s in stock, what you’ve already promoted, what’s coming — and what the rest of your category is doing. Marklo sees all of it, spots the next opportunity and gets the work moving,” Herrin said.

Away’s senior director of retention marketing, Allison Plaisance, framed the gap in operator terms: “We already had Shopify, Klaviyo and analytics tools. What was missing was one place that connected all of our marketing campaigns, inventory and sales data. Marklo gives us the whole commercial picture and an actionable path forward.”

The round lands inside a crowded category. Sales, marketing, and CRM startups globally pulled $7.5 billion across 830 rounds through mid-September 2026, closing in on 2025’s full-year total of $11.1 billion. The agentic-planner framing isn’t unique to Marklo either; it echoes the same week’s announcements from TikTok’s agentic commerce suite and CreatorIQ’s goal-to-campaign system Q.

Forerunner’s Kirsten Green bet on the operator rather than the taxonomy, describing Herrin as someone who “uniquely has been the customer that she’s building for right now at every stage, from starting a brand to having a brand at scale,” and framing the product’s edge as “not just collect[ing] the information” but understanding “how to present it and how to recommend an action against it.” Stella & Dot was built on roughly $2 million and paid out more than $500 million to sellers before dropping 80% during COVID. Herrin is pitching the next one to the same buyer, with a longer memory of what breaks.
