Klaviyo Goes Headless, Turning Its CRM Into an Agent Backend

At its K:BOS conference in Boston, Klaviyo exposed 260+ MCP tools and 490+ APIs so agents inside Claude, ChatGPT, or custom systems can read, segment, and launch campaigns without anyone opening Klaviyo.

Klaviyo went headless on September 10 at its K:BOS conference in Boston, exposing 260+ Model Context Protocol tools and 490+ APIs so that outside agents, Claude and ChatGPT among them, can read customer data, build segments, and launch campaigns without anyone logging into the product. The company that made its name selling a marketing UI just decided the UI is optional.

The framing is deliberately infrastructural. “An agent is only as useful as three things; whether it understands a brand’s data, whether it can reach that understanding from wherever it’s running, and whether it can act on it for every individual customer,” said Andrew Bialecki, co-founder and co-CEO. The platform processes more than four billion signals a day, and the argument is that this exhaust is worth more piped into whatever tool a marketer already lives inside than trapped behind a login.

The launch comes weeks after Klaviyo’s absorption of an outside AI agent team last month, and the sequencing is the story. Buy the agent talent, then remove the walls that made agents dependent on a single interface.

Alongside the headless push, Klaviyo previewed a SQL feature inside the Klaviyo Data Platform, available through Composer and MCP, that turns plain-language prompts into queries across profiles, events, segments, lists, and catalogs. Marketing Analytics has been renamed Personalization, and the single general model behind it has been split into specialized models for who, what, when, and where.

The company’s own examples telegraph the intended usage: custom reporting dashboards built in Cursor or Lovable against live data, a weekly performance review piped into Slack over MCP, campaign drafts written in ChatGPT.

For a small consumer brand running abandoned-cart, winback, and browse-abandonment flows without a full-time email marketer, that’s the shift that matters. Retention work that used to require a dashboard operator can now sit inside an agent loop, though SQL and Personalization remain in Preview and every send still requires human approval. The dashboard isn’t dead. It’s just no longer the point.
