Anthropic ships Claude Opus 4.8 and closes $65B round at $965B valuation

The new flagship model adds dynamic workflows that orchestrate hundreds of parallel subagents in Claude Code, arriving 41 days after Opus 4.7 — and alongside a Series H that pushes Anthropic past OpenAI on paper.

Anthropic released Claude Opus 4.8 on Thursday and, in the same news cycle, disclosed a $65 billion Series H at a $965 billion post-money valuation, a number that, per SiliconAngle, puts the company ahead of OpenAI Group PBC on paper. The model arrived 41 days after Opus 4.7. The round arrived alongside it. Neither timing was accidental.

The product story is concentrated in Claude Code, where a research-preview feature called Dynamic Workflows can orchestrate what Anthropic describes as “hundreds of parallel subagents in a single session,” targeting “codebase-scale migrations across hundreds of thousands of lines of code from kickoff to merge.” It’s a pitch aimed squarely at enterprise buyers who’ve started treating coding agents as a line item, and it ships on Enterprise, Team, and Max plans.

Benchmarks are the negotiating chips. SiliconAngle reports Opus 4.8 at 74.2% on Terminal-Bench 2.1, an 8.4-point gain over 4.7, with a 4.9-point lift on SWE-Bench Pro. MacRumors, citing Anthropic’s own number, puts the SWE-Bench Pro score at 69.2%, ahead of GPT-5.5 and Gemini 3.1 Pro, though it notes GPT-5.5 still leads on terminal coding. Anthropic also claims an 84% on Online-Mind2Web and says the model is “around four times less likely than its predecessor to allow flaws in code it has written to pass unremarked.”

Pricing tells its own story. Per Yahoo Finance, standard rates hold at $5 per million input tokens and $25 per million output tokens, unchanged from 4.7. A new fast mode runs $10 and $50, delivering 2.5× the speed at 3× cheaper than prior fast tiers. Anthropic isn’t competing on sticker price. It’s competing on throughput per dollar inside agentic loops, which is where its run rate, which SiliconAngle says has more than tripled to $47 billion over the past three months, actually gets made.

The cadence around it’s the real signal. Opus ships every six weeks; Sonnet is three months old and Haiku is seven, per TechCrunch. A tentative Mythos preview last month raised cybersecurity concerns, and Anthropic now says it expects to “bring Mythos-class models to all our customers in the coming weeks.” A $965 billion valuation requires a release calendar that looks like this one.
